Association Raymond Abellio de Recherches et Études

ARARE is a non-profit cultural and scientific association whose purpose is to promote the work and thought of Raymond Abellio and all aspects of research sparked or inspired by this work, as well as related activities, such as:

• editing and publishing texts,
• organizing conferences, meetings, colloquia, exhibitions, public readings...,
• organizing training workshops related to the Association's purpose,
• producing audiovisual works using existing or emerging techniques,
• philosophical, scientific, literary, and artistic research projects.

ARARE annually organizes the Raymond Abellio Rencontres and publishes this website.

History

A group of friends who had met at the Cérisy-la-Salle colloquium devoted to Raymond Abellio in September 2002 organized the first Seix session of the Rencontres in 2004, in the Pyrenean village of Seix (Ariège), birthplace of the writer's maternal family. This first Rencontre was hosted with the support of the municipality of Seix and the Patrimoine seixois association in the village's former presbytery (see the 2004 page of this website).

Since then, the Rencontres have been held annually, most often in Seix, but also in Montreal (2012), Porto (2010 and 2015), and Toulouse (2018, 2019).

In 2011, the Seix Rencontres became the Raymond Abellio Rencontres.

In July 2012, this website was created, with the association Le Promeneur des Lettres, des Sciences et de la Philosophie as publisher at the time. At the end of 2017, this Association became the Association Raymond Abellio de Recherches et Études (ARARE).
